A bit out of order but I will post it here FYI
TRAVELING THE USA IN THE 1950's
When my mother purchased a new 1952 Plymouth (Cranbrook model) we were able to travel from Chicago to visit relatives in Arkansas. No fancy Interstates yet.
I was only 8-10 but do remember when it got dark my mother pulled over outside of a larger town and we slept in the car until the next morning.
Obviously hotels were available but for us lower middle class folks it was pulling over to the side of the road to sleep.
Motels of today were not yet in vogue and we were not the only car pulled over for the night.
1952 Plymouth, Cranbrook model - this model name is shown just behind the front right tire in script. This is an undated photo but it would be me at age about 6-7 yrs.
===============================
Spent some time looking at this blog site but I will leave it as it is now.
One month from now is birthday #74. My health is so-so, and I don't get around much these days. Usually out for a late lunch, run some errands then back home to watch my new $850 TV. The average day's driving is 10.7 miles, so I don't get far from home. I find that using a cane is of some assistance.
One interesting thing is that I finally got my 'stimilus check' for $1,200 from the Govt. Took long enough but I was in that group processed last, those who have not filed any recent Federal Tax Form.
So far I have managed to avoid the Chinese Flu, which just today hit 100,000 dead.
Some comments here of my education. I was sometimes a good + student and sometimes not a good student.
Here are the various schools that I attended:
Grades 3 to 8 Orland Park Elementary - Graduated in 1960
Carl Sandburg High School, Orland Park - Graduated 1964
The summer between my senior year and going on to college was spent working for the Cook County Forest Preserve.
Chipola Junior College, Marianna, Fla (this is North Fla about 30 miles from the Alabama border) for my Freshman year 1954-65
Panhandle A & M College in Goodwell, Oklhoma for the first semester of my Sophmore year (1965). This is when I met Thelma Natseway on a trip to Tony Jaramillo's home in Isleta, NM. I met Tony at this college and when we had a long weekend we would drive my 1964 Corvair from Goodwell, OK to Isleta NM.
Tony's girlfriend was Regina Jaramillo and they set me up with a date with Thelma Natseway. We later married in a Lutheran Church in Albuquerque.
University of Albuquerque, a Catholic college. This was for the second semester of my Sophmore year. I transferred here to be closer to Thelma. This was Jan to May 1966.
University of New Mexico for the summer session 1966, I took 9 credit hours. I also worked part time at Baker Shoes in WinRock Plaza during this period.
Thelma and I were married that summer and we packed up a used trailer, hooked it up to my well used car (not the Corvair that got sold) and went to Delray Beach, Florida.
Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Fla for my Junior and Senior years. I got a BS in Business. Attending from 1966 to 1968.
Also while at University I worked for both Pinkerton and Burns Security as a uniformed guard, most of that was with Burns doing midnight to 8 a.m. shifts 40 hrs a week at the La Bon Vie condo in Palm Beach, then usually going on to FAU for classes.
Long after our divorce I attended Rio Hondo Community College in Whittier, Calif and got an AS in Paralegal Studies. This was 2 semesters in 1987-88.

Just for your info from this point on most of the items dropped in here are mixed in with duplicates of what was posted already on this blog site, so don't say I didn't warn you!
